The Island of Adventure

The Island of Adventure by Enid Blyton

For Philip, Dinah, Lucy-Ann, Jack, and Kiki the parrot, the summer holidays in Cornwall are everything they’d hoped for, until they begin to realize that something very sinister is taking place on the mysterious Isle of Gloom where a dangerous adventure awaits them in the abandoned copper mines and secret tunnels beneath the sea.

The Good

The friends look out for each other and try not to disobey the people in authority over them.

The Bad

Bad men are printing counterfeit money in the copper mines. Bill, Philip and Jack get captured in a room underwater that is near an explosive. The men capture Philip, Dinah, and Lucy-Ann, bu they escape. Bill is a policeman trying to find the hideout of the counterfeit gang.

Ages

Ages 9+ is great for this book. It would be really good read-aloud.

My Take

I really enjoyed The Island of Adventure by Enid Blyton. It’s similar to The Famous Five series she wrote, but I prefer this series. Kiki the parrot is a lovely addition! The story is set in England during the age where children were sent to boarding school and they had teatime. It’s cool to see how people lived not so long ago when Enid Blyton wrote this series.
