North! Or Be Eaten

North! Or Be Eaten by Andrew Peterson

Janner, Tink, and Leeli Igiby thought they were normal children with normal lives and a normal past. But now they know they’re really the Lost Jewels of Anniera, heirs to the legendary kingdom across the sea, and suddenly everyone wants to kill them. In order to survive, the Igibys must flee to the safety of the Ice Prairies, where the lizard-like Fangs of Dang cannot follow. First, however, they have to escape the monsters of Glipwood Forest, the thieving Stranders of the East Bend, and the dreaded Fork Factory.

But even more dangerous is the jealousy and bitterness that threatens to tear them apart, and Janner and his siblings must learn the hard way that the love of a family is more important than anything else.

The Good

Janner’s mom and grandfather are portrayed in a positive way. Artham (Peet) risks his life to help the Igibys.

The Bad

Janner gets kidnapped and is forced to make weapons for the Fangs of Dang. Tink turns partly into a wolf fang. The Stone Keeper takes people and turns them into Fangs.

Ages

10+ is a good age for this book. It’s also a good read-aloud.

My Take

The hilarious second book in the Wingfeather Saga! I loved it. The part where the Stone Keeper turns people into fangs might scare some kids. If you’re worried about it, just read chapter 51 and 55. The chapters in the book are super short.
