No Talking by Andrew Clements
Who can talk less for two whole days, boys or girls? The fifth graders at Laketon Elementary are the noisiest class in history, so when Dave Packer challenges Lynsey Burgess to a boys vs. girls “no talking” contest, it’s not going to be easy for either side.
Teachers and school administrators are in an uproar, until one creative teacher sees the kids’ experiment as a unique opportunity to look at language in a fresh new way- and that’s when things get really interesting.
The Good
By not talking for two days, the fifth graders learn self-control and that it’s not great to talk constantly.
The Bad
The fifth graders disobey their principal.
Ages
8+ is a good age for this book. It’s also a great read-aloud.
My Take
This book is really interesting. I enjoyed reading it. I challenge you, after you or your kids read it, try to not talk for a day, according to the rules the fifth graders made in the book. Or you can make your own rules. Have fun with it!
