Poached by Stuart Gibbs
School troublemaker Vance Jessup thinks Teddy Fitzroy’s home at FunJungle, a state-of-the-art zoo and theme park, is the perfect place for a cruel prank. Vance bullies Teddy into his scheme, but the plan goes terribly awry.

Teddy sneaks into the koala exhibit to hide out until the chaos dies down. But when the koala goes missing, Teddy is the only person caught on camera entering and exiting the exhibit. Teddy didn’t commit the crime–but if he can’t find the real culprit, he’ll be sent to juvie as a convicted koala-napper.

The Good

Teddy’s parents protect him no matter what.

The Bad

Vance bullies Teddy into throwing a mannequin arm down the shark tank at Funjungle. He tries to put Teddy’s head into a stinky toilet. Teddy ends up in a tank with a man-eating shark. There’s some swearing, but not as much as belly up.

Ages

Ages 9+ would be a good age for this book.

My Take

Poached was a pretty good book. I made the HUGE mistake of reading the fourth book first (don’t do it!), so then I already knew who the criminal was. The authorities followed the wrong trail (again!) and Teddy saved the day by figuring out who stole the koala. For the book before this, click here. For the one after this, click here.
