The Good
Heather and Picket love each other and look out for each other. Their friends care for them and stand with them when they are accused as traitors. Their love and loyalty to their family helps them do the right thing, no matter the circumstance.
The Bad
The book has several violent sections, but it’s not descriptive or gory during those parts. Heather and Picket run away from their burning home to a safe haven, fighting evil wolves all along the way. Battles happen after they arrive.
Ages
Ages 10+ is great for this book. For several people this is their favorite read-aloud. That really depends upon your family’s preferences.
My Take
I really enjoyed The Green Ember. I thought there might have been a bit too much action, but that isn’t really important. I loved Picket’s transformation from pride to humility. It’s beautiful. I can’t wait to read the second and third books.
